A rector of a temple who collected data for the FSB has been convicted in Sumy region. The representative of the UOC-MP will spend 15 years behind bars.
This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
At the public prosecution of the Sumy regional Prosecutor's office, the rector of one of the temples of the UOC (MP) in Shostka district was found guilty of committing high treason (part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property," the report said.
It was proved in court that the FSB officer came into contact with the clergyman after the start of the full-scale invasion. Having pro-Russian views, the abbot agreed to co-operate.
The convict's duties included collecting data on the number of military personnel and their weapons on the territory of the region, as well as information about the heads of local authorities, law enforcement agencies, public activists, their political views and authority among the local population.
The rector of the temple wrote down exact addresses, photographed the area where military personnel and military equipment were stationed on the territory of Shostka district. Collected information about patriotically minded citizens who can influence the society, - reported in the UCP.
The collected information the convict passed the information to an employee of the FSB of the Russian Federation in one of the messengers.
Theclergyman was detained in March 2023. He was awaiting the announcement of the verdict in custody.
