As a rule, pigskin is used in the treatment of burns.

A bank of human skin will be created in Ukraine. It will work on the basis of the Lviv Burn Center, and the skin that will be stored there will be used for transplantation to patients.

The creation of such a center was thought for a long time, but the war in Ukraine accelerated it.

As a result of Russian bombing, hundreds of people across the country received deep burns, the TSN story says.

The doctors explained that they had used pigskin until now. That closes the affected areas, but its use is limited in time - only 10 days. In contrast, human donor skin can cover the wound for several months.

According to modern world standards, burns are treated radically - excision of dead skin. After that, the patients must be stabilized by closing the wounds, the doctors said.

Until now, the treatment of post-mortem donor skin was possible only abroad, but the department, which is being completed, will already have a Ukrainian skin bank. It will be used in Lviv and transferred to hospitals throughout Ukraine.

The new institution is designed for 70 inpatient beds and another 20 intensive care units.

In addition, the department where transplantation and recovery of patients will take place will be provided with modern and comfortable conditions for speedy rehabilitation.

Each burn patient should be in a separate box, this is due to the microflora of the intensive care unit, with the flora that a patient with a burn injury has. There will be a supply and exhaust microclimate system, - said the director of the Hospital of St. Luke of the First Medical Association of Lviv, Vasily Trunkvalter.

The first patients in the new burn center are planned to be accepted in the summer.
