US Congress introduces resolution demanding ATACMS for Ukraine

Surface-to-surface missiles can hit targets at distances of around 300km
Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives representing the Democratic and Republican parties have introduced a resolution calling on President Joe Biden's administration to transfer the long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. The resolution in question was published on the committee's website.
They noted that America could have done more for Ukraine, but instead, "Washington is dragging out the conflict" by not providing Kiev with all the necessary weapons.
Resolution co-sponsor Michael McCole stressed that the success of a counter-offensive depends on how much the Ukrainian army is armed.
The success of the Ukrainian counter-offensive is directly linked to the military assistance provided by the USA and our allies. Therefore it is extremely disappointing that the administration is withholding billions of dollars of military funding that could have been immediately transferred to Ukraine and, in turn, help its armed forces significantly change the situation on the battlefield," he said.
The document notes that the US and allied countries have thousands of ATACMS missiles, and some of them could be transferred to Ukraine.
ATACMS will help the AFU to strike deep behind enemy lines. This will affect Russia's ability to fight the war further," the document said.
If it is decided to transfer the missiles, they are planned to be transferred "immediately".
Note that ATACMS is an American ground-to-ground ballistic missile. It can hit targets at a distance of up to 300 km. The M142 HIMARS system can be used to launch this type of missile.
