The Ukrainian people were awarded the Sakharov Prize

In Strasbourg, Ukrainians were presented with the European Union's main human rights award.
This was reported by the UNIAN news agency.
The ceremony took place in the European Parliament building in Strasbourg. The Ukrainian delegation consisted of paramedic Yuliya Payivska, the head of the Centre for Public Freedom, Oleksandra Matviychuk, Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov, who has been in Russian captivity, rescuers, representatives of the Yellow Tape movement, whose members wage partisan war in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski spoke about the Ukrainians' struggle against the invaders.
Since 1988 the European Parliament has awarded the Sakharov Prize to individuals and organisations fighting for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The European Parliament observed a minute's silence for the Ukrainians who died in the war against Russia.
