Ukraine's population has significantly decreased - British journalist

Since the full-scale invasion began, millions of Ukrainians have fled the country - it is estimated that at least 4.5 million have gone abroad, a key factor in the rapid population decline.
British journalist Will Lloyd has announced a sharp demographic collapse in Ukraine: during a full-scale war, the population of our country could almost halve - from more than 40m to about 20m people by 2025. The editor of the British magazine New Statesman wrote about this in his column.
These estimates, he said, are much sadder than those voiced earlier and are based, among other things, on data from British officials.
That said, other studies give more restrained figures. Forbes Ukraine estimates that there will be about 30.5 million people living in Ukraine-controlled territory in 2025, while demographers put the figure at about 31.5 million.
If there is no war and the 1991 borders are preserved, Ukraine's population could reach 41.5m," the director of the Institute of Demography, Ella Libanova, said.
We shall remind you that the last census in Ukraine was conducted back in 2001 and recorded 48.46m residents.
