July 2024 has become the deadliest since October 2022 in terms of the number of civilian casualties from the war in Ukraine. This is stated in a UN report.

In particular, analysts of the organisation point out that at least 219 civilians were killed and 1,018 injured in Ukraine in July. They also note that the real number of victims may differ upwards.

This makes this month the deadliest month for civilians since October 2022," they note.

The UN emphasises that the trend of increasing civilian casualties continues. And people continue to die in their own homes, transport and workplaces.

The most frequent causes of civilian deaths remain injuries from exploded shells, missile and drone attacks. Also some civilians die because of mines, which the Russian army actively uses to kill Ukrainians.

The document says that the intensive offensive military operations of the Russian Federation in the summer moved from the northern part of Kharkiv region to Donetsk region.

As a result, confirmed civilian casualties in Donetsk Region rose from 125 dead and wounded in May, to 224 in June and 269 in July 2024," the UN report quotes statistics.
