Thorough checks and internal investigations will be carried out before a decision is made to dismiss these officials.

This is reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the Deputy Head of the Office of the President Andrey Smirnov.

First, Smirnov said that we are not talking about the dismissal of the Prosecutor General and the head of the SBU.

We are talking about the fact that the Prosecutor General was removed from office, and the head of the SBU was temporarily suspended from his duties. This is due to the fact that the president… we have all been waiting for quite a long time for more specific radical results from the leaders of these two bodies to cleanse these bodies of collaborators and traitors. However, in the sixth month of the war, we continue to find these people. And in order to make impossible the potential influence of these two officials on the criminal proceedings that are being investigated against both SBU employees and prosecutors, the president made these decisions,” he said.

Also, according to Smirnov, after internal checks and investigations, a decision will be made to dismiss or not to dismiss the head of the SBU and the prosecutor general.

Zelensky, in his evening address, said that as of July 17, 651 criminal proceedings were registered on high treason and collaboration activities of employees of the prosecutor's office, pre-trial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies. In 198 criminal proceedings, suspicion has already been notified. In particular, more than 60 employees of the bodies and the SBU remained in the occupied territory and are working against Ukraine.
