The US operation was called Midnight Hammer and had been in preparation for the past weeks.

The US has completely eliminated Iran's nuclear programme by attacking three key sites. This was stated by Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth commenting on the US military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. According to him, the US has achieved complete neutralisation of Iran's nuclear programme.

At a briefing, the defence secretary said US forces "attacked three key nuclear sites in Iran in the middle of the night", describing the operation as an "incredible and stunning success".

We have destroyed Iran's nuclear programme. This operation did not target troops or civilians. President Trump has repeatedly said that Iran should not have its nuclear programme - and thanks to the US decision, this threat has been eliminated," the minister stressed.

The Pentagon chief further added that destroying Tehran's nuclear ambitions confirms the US ability to effectively prevent conflicts.

When America speaks, the world must listen. And this is backed up by the actions of our military. No other country could have carried out such an operation," he added.

The US strike was carried out on the night of 22 June against three nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan - the same sites already hit by an airstrike by Israel on 13 June.

A total of 75 precision-guided munitions were used to strike Iran, among them GBU-57 MOP anti-bunker bombs (the first combat use of this weapon).
