The European Commission has recommended granting Ukraine candidate status
The final decision on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the EU will be made at the summit of EU leaders on June 23
Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Commission decided to recommend granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
We recommend granting candidate status to Ukraine, on the understanding that a number of important reforms will take place in the country. Ukraine has clearly demonstrated adherence to European values and standards,” she said.
She also noted that Ukraine continued to show good macroeconomic results, demonstrate worthy attention to macroeconomic and financial stability.
The European Commission also proposed to grant Moldova the status of a candidate. Georgia has been turned down for now.
The final decision on granting Ukraine and Moldova candidate status for EU membership will be made at the EU leaders' summit on June 23.
