The European Commission has accepted the Rada's recommendation to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.

According to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Ukraine is a European state that has demonstrated the stability of its institutions that guarantee democracy, the rule of law, as well as human rights and respect and protection of national minorities.

The European Commission also gives an action plan that needs to be completed to start Ukraine's negotiations on joining the EU. The step-by-step plan was published in his TG channel by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.

Here are the required steps:

✅Adoption and implementation of legislation on the procedure for selecting judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, including the process of preliminary selection based on an assessment of their virtue and professional skills, in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission;

✅ Completion of the verification of the virtues of candidates for members of the High Council of Justice and selection of candidates for the High Qualifications Commission of Judges of Ukraine;

✅Further strengthening of the fight against corruption, in particular at a high level. Completion of the selection and appointment of a new director of NABU and prosecutor of SAPO.

✅ Ensuring compliance of anti-money laundering legislation with the standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF);

✅Adoption of a comprehensive strategic plan for reforming the entire law enforcement sector as part of Ukraine's security environment;

✅ Must earn an "anti-oligarchic" law;

✅It is necessary to bring media legislation in line with European audiovisual legislation;

✅ It is necessary to complete the reform of the legislative framework for national minorities, which is currently being prepared in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission, and develop mechanisms for its implementation.

Our task is to do everything as quickly as possible. We are working. Ukraine will be in the EU 🇺🇦🇪🇺,” Yermak wrote.

Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the decision of the European Commission in this way

I welcome the positive conclusion of the European Commission on granting 🇺🇦 candidate status. This is the first step towards EU membership, which will certainly bring our victory closer. Thanks to President Ursula von der Leyen and to every member of the EC for making a historic decision. Looking forward to a positive #EUCO outcome next week,” the President tweeted.

Recall that earlier Zelensky commented on the meeting with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania.

Today is a truly historic day - Ukraine felt the support of four powerful European states at once. And, in particular, the support of our movement in the European Union. All leaders understand why negotiations are not taking place now after the end of the war. Exclusively because of the position of Russia, which is only trying to intimidate everyone in Europe and continue the destruction of Ukraine, and not look for a path to peace. We will continue to fight until we guarantee complete security for our state,” Zelensky said.
