The Swiss government has extended temporary protection status for Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the country because of Russia's full-scale invasion.

The decision to extend the temporary protection status for Ukrainian refugees until 4 March 2025 was adopted at a meeting of the Swiss Federal Council on 1 November. This is reported on the website of the Swiss Federal Council.

A lasting stabilisation of the situation in Ukraine is not foreseen. Thus, the S status for people from Ukraine seeking asylum will not be cancelled until 4 March 2025, - stated in a press release.

The Federal Council also set a target concerning professional integration for the first time: 40 per cent of S status holders should have a job by the end of 2024.

As of the end of October 2023, Switzerland had granted temporary protection status to an estimated 66,000 Ukrainians.
