Imagine, the author of almost all your nightmares, Stephen King, has finally decided to leave the social network X. Yes, the same X where every other post looks like a teaser for his new novel.

What happened to the man who for decades inspired us to be afraid of the dark, clowns and our own imagination? Why did King, who amassed more than 7 million followers there, decide to put an end to his Twitter adventures?

Stephen King created his Twitter account in 2013. For a long time he was not only the author of horror, but also a kind of "voice of common sense" in this social network. His posts often went viral as he masterfully combined irony, sarcasm and sharp comments on social and political topics.

But Twitter has changed, and not for the better (we're not even talking about the name change!).

After the arrival of Ilon Musk and the introduction of paid subscriptions for verified accounts, King was one of the first to express his outrage.

I'm not paying $8 for a blue tick. If you want me to stay, pay me! - The writer joked in his latest tweets. But it seems that even the blue tick could not keep him online.

The main reason cited by the writer in his latest comments was the "toxic atmosphere" and the change in the platform's policies.

Twitter has become an arena where good doesn't stand a chance. I no longer want to be part of this chaos," King wrote before closing the account.

This decision came as a surprise to many, as King used his popularity to support important social and humanitarian initiatives. In particular, he actively spoke out in support of Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression.

Where did the king of horror go?

It turns out that Stephen King is now on a new social network called Threads, which is a competitor to X and is owned by Meta. At Threads he continues to comment on world events, but now in a more positive environment.

I think there's more light here," he wrote ironically in his first post.

King's connection to Ukraine cannot be called superficial. Back at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he was one of the first global celebrities to publicly support the Ukrainian people. His tweets with the Ukrainian flag and appeals to the world to help Ukraine quickly went viral. In addition, King financially supported charitable organisations that work in Ukraine. In his messages, he repeatedly emphasised the courage of Ukrainians and compared their struggle to the plots of his books, where good always triumphs over evil.

Of course, X will no longer be the same without King. But for an author who masterfully manipulates themes of fear, it may have been a way to avoid the "worst monster" - social media. After all, the horrors on the pages of his novels have always been controllable, but the toxicity online is already true uncontrollable chaos.

Where will Stephen King take us in his new articles and novels? Who knows. But one thing is certain: where there is King, there will always be room for irony, courage, and perhaps a little less "toxic" monsters.
