US urges its citizens to leave Russia immediately

This was said in a statement by the US Embassy in Moscow.

The reason for the call is that the USA believes that Russian authorities may harass and arbitrarily arrest Americans on its territory.

The US has urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately because of the war in Ukraine and the risk of arbitrary arrest or harassment by Russian law enforcement authorities.

The US embassy says Russia is arresting its citizens on trumped-up charges, harassing them, denying them fair and transparent treatment, convicting them in secret trials or without providing credible evidence.

The embassy also recalled that the U.S. government's ability to assist its citizens in Russia is severely limited, especially in areas far from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, due to Russian government restrictions on embassy staff travel and staffing.
