a "mole" of the Russian intelligence service mobilised in the AFU to spy on the front line. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
A Russian agent who mobilized in the Ukrainian Armed Forces to spy on the defence forces on the eastern front has received a real prison sentence of 15 years. This was reported by the SBU on 13 June.
At the end of February this year, the SBU detained the traitor when he tried to escape to unrecognised Transnistria via a border river.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a resident of Dnipropetrovsk region who graduated from Moscow State University in the 2000s, where he received a law degree. During his studies in the Russian Federation, he came to the attention of the Russian military intelligence agency GRU.
After his studies, he returned to Ukraine, where for a long time he was in "standby mode" for enemy assignments.
In 2023, the figure was "activated" by his Russian handler to conduct intelligence and subversive activities.
After that, the agent mobilised into one of the brigades of the AFU, as part of which he was sent to the area of Bakhmut.
While on the front-line territory, the Russian GRU mole collected intelligence on the locations and movements of Ukrainian troops.
Realising the inevitability of punishment for the committed crime, the traitor secretly left his unit and tried to flee abroad, - reported in the SBU.
The SBU officers documented his crimes step by step and detained the spy on the border of Vinnytsia region.
The attacker was found guilty by the court under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, part 2 of article 111 (high treason committed under martial law) and part 4 of article 408 (desertion)
Taking into account the cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.
