- Selling substandard body armour: entrepreneur to be tried in Kiev
The director of a private company was reportedly suspected of embezzling budget funds. According to investigators, he supplied the military with substandard body armour.
This was reported by the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (EBS).
In May 2022, the director of a company in Kiev Region reportedly signed a contract to supply 350 bullet-proof waistcoats. According to the terms of the contract, the director arranged for the supply of protective equipment, which according to the documents should correspond to protection class 4.
However, it turned out that these waistcoats did not meet the requirements of the DSTU.
In pursuit of selfish motives, the company's director disregarded the safety of life and health of military personnel and supplied substandard body armor to a military unit. As a result of these criminal actions, the company director embezzled the budget funds allocated for the national security and defense of Ukraine in the total amount of UAH 5.9 million," the BEB reported.
At the moment the suspect is suspected under Part 1 Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on the fact of legalization (laundering) of budget funds. And a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest overnight has been chosen.
