Poland wants to increase the EU fund to buy Ukrainian arms. But some countries are against
The biggest EU countries complain that the increase in volumes could become a burden on their budgets.
This was reported by the Polish publication RMF24.
According to Polish journalists, Poland continues to insist that the European Peace Fund, which is used to buy weapons for Ukraine, should be increased.
But resistance comes from France, Germany, Italy and Greece, which do not support the idea. These countries argue that 60 per cent of the fund's budget depends on them. The increase could become burdensome for them.
The issue will soon be discussed by EU ambassadors, then by foreign ministers, and finally it will be put to an EU leaders' summit, probably not until June.
According to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the fund now stands at 3.5bn euros.
