Poland says under what conditions it will shoot down Russian missiles

Poland is ready to shoot down Russian missiles over its territory under certain conditions. This was stated by Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysh in an interview with Voice of America.

He pointed out that Poland often detects Russian drones and missiles near its borders, but will shoot them down only when they pose a danger to Polish settlements.

There has not yet been a case where a missile was targeted on Polish territory, but yes, last week Polish F-16s took off and were ready to defend the territory near the border," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

He emphasised that Poland's air defence system is in constant readiness near a number of sites.

We are talking about the Rzeszów airport, which is being placed under NATO protection. Our allies America, Britain, Germany, Norway and other countries protect us at the airbase. And if this airspace is violated, a missile or drone will be shot down," the minister said.

He added that Russian missiles and drones theoretically threaten Latvia and Romania as well, whose airspace is also frequently violated by the Russians during attacks on Ukraine.

At the same time, he added that Poland would not shoot down air targets over the territory of Ukraine until there is a collective decision of NATO.
