In the event of a threat in eastern Poland, the task of the tank unit will be to create a barrier against enemy offensives.

Poland has deployed a new tank battalion equipped with K2 tanks on the border with Belarus. This was reported by the Polish Defence Ministry.

Head of the Polish Defence Ministry took part in the commissioning of the new military unit and met with soldiers of the newly formed 1st Legion Infantry Division.

The armoured brigade will be designed to fight as part of the division or independently, in various terrain and climatic conditions.

We recognise the threats. We understand perfectly well that the Kremlin rulers started the war because they want to restore the Russian Empire. This has always been dangerous for the peoples living in the neighbourhood," said the head of the Polish Defence Ministry.

At the first stage of the creation of the unit, more than a hundred servicemen will be stationed here, and eventually several hundred on a permanent basis.

The unit will include modern equipment purchased for Poland in recent years - K2 tanks, Rak mortars and Poprad systems.
