Victories of the Jeddah summit: the decisions made

On 5-6 August, a meeting on the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula was held in Jeddah. More than 30 delegations took part in the summit. The participants discussed, among other things, Ukraine's defence needs and humanitarian demining, and preparations for the Global Peace Summit.
Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President, who held several meetings with the leaders of the states, gave a detailed account of the summit's results.
Yermak noted how the attitude of some countries towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine was changing:
One of the partners said to me: "You have no idea what a great job you are doing, because the representatives of one country just two months ago were talking about the war in Russian narratives. And now they have started to realise what is actually happening, and after a lot of work you have done, their position has undergone a big change."
Summit highlights
Yermak discussed defence needs and strengthening Ukrainian air defences with Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to the US President. They agreed on "common actions in implementing the Peace Formula and preparing for the Global Peace Summit." They also discussed the results of the NATO summit and the path to Ukraine's integration into the Alliance.
He positively assessed the start of negotiations with the USA on concluding a bilateral agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine," Yermak summarised.
With the National Security Advisor of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Musaid bin Muhammad Al Aiban, the possibility of expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the agro-industrial and energy sectors, was discussed.
Yermak also expressed the opinion that Saudi Arabia could contribute to releasing Ukrainian prisoners and ensuring food security.
The possibility of expanding cooperation and participation in the post-war renewal of Ukraine was discussed with the representative of Qatar - Muhammad bin Ahmed Al Misned. The issue of involving as many countries as possible in implementing the Ukrainian Peace Formula was also raised.
In addition to the peace formula, the summit participants also discussed supplies of Ukrainian grain. In particular, with the representative of Turkey, they discussed the functioning of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. And with representatives of Poland and the Slovak Republic - export of grain by land to the EU countries if the blockade of Ukrainian ports continues.
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, also participated in the summit. He focused on humanitarian issues and the deportation of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation.
According to the ombudsman, Ukraine needs third countries' assistance to return deported children. After all, our state dispelled all diplomatic relations with the aggressor with the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The Russian Federation is not only an enemy of Ukraine, it is an enemy of the democratic world. And the fact that a large number of countries came to this meeting says one thing - more and more countries understand the real threat of the aggressor and the consequences of the war in Ukraine for the whole world," the ombudsman concluded.
Lubinets expressed hope that Ukraine would subsequently hold several bilateral negotiations.
