The Russian ship Lady R was spotted loading and unloading at a South African naval port.

"The Telegraph wrote:

The Russian-flagged cargo and container ship Lady R was spotted at the Simons Town naval port on Thursday evening, South Africa's Daily Maverick newspaper reported, citing local witnesses who photographed the vessel at the port, that it was seen unloading and then receiving cargo during one of the regular power cuts concerning the country.

The ship is under US and EU sanctions because of transporting weapons for Russia.

Kobus Mare, a representative of the opposition DA party, in the country's parliament, said he had written to Defence Minister Tandi Modisa demanding an explanation:

The defence minister must explain to South Africans what a sanctioned Russian ship is doing at the Simons Town Naval Base and why there is so much mystery surrounding it.

Mare added that the action at Simons Town harbour raises many questions:

The events are worrying because the ship is under US and European Union sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
