There is no direct ban on learning Russian in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, there is no direct ban on the study of the Russian language in schools, so it will continue to be taught to children. This was stated by the Ombudsman for Education Sergei Gorbachev for Detector Media .

He added that ethnic Russians have the right to study their native language in educational institutions.

If parents consider themselves ethnic Russians and apply to the school with a corresponding statement, then why not? There is no direct ban on learning Russian in Ukraine. The legislation guarantees people belonging to the national minorities of Ukraine the right to study in communal educational institutions in the language of the respective national minority along with the state language, he said.

Speaking about the study of the Russian language in universities, Gorbachev noted that the situation here would depend on the decision of the leadership of the university.

Recently, I have already seen reports in the media about the closure of the Department of the Russian Language and the History of Russian Literature at the Karazin Kharkiv National University. The department of Slavic philology will operate at the university, - he gave an example and added that universities form their structure in accordance with the requests of applicants.

We will remind, the executive committee of the Nikolaev City Council approved a ban on the use of the Russian language in the schools of the city. We are talking about the study of the Russian language as a subject, course, elective in grades 1-11 of institutions of general secondary education in Nikolaev, belonging to a communal form of ownership.

Also, in the schools of Zhytomyr this year they will not enroll children in classes for the study of the Russian language.
