Nine countries have already supported Ukraine's accession to NATO
The presidents of nine countries, members of NATO, spoke in favor of Ukraine joining the Alliance.
Recall that immediately after Putin's speech and his announcement of the accession of the occupied territories to Russia, Ukraine applied for an accelerated entry into NATO. In order for a country to become a member of the Alliance, the consent of all NATO member countries is required.
The nine presidents, in a joint statement, "expressed strong support for the decision of the 2008 NATO Bucharest summit on Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance." This was reported to the BBC.
We support Ukraine in its defense against Russian invasion, we demand from Russia an immediate withdrawal of troops from all occupied territories, and we call on all members of the Alliance to significantly increase military assistance to Ukraine. All who commit crimes of aggression must be held accountable and brought to justice, the presidents said in a joint statement.
The statement was signed by Czech President Milos Zeman, Estonian President Alar Karis, Latvian President Egils Levits, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovsky, Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Romanian President Klaus Iogannis and Romanian President Klaus Iogannis.
Recall that earlier the application of Ukraine was also supported by Canada.
Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on the air of the national telethon that Ukraine has already become a de facto NATO member, it remains to become a de jure one.
Ukraine has mastered more than 300 NATO standards. During the six months of the war, we have mastered NATO weapons, and very sophisticated ones. 155-caliber artillery systems, MLRS, Gepard anti-aircraft guns and much more, he said.
