The award was received by Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian human rights activists.

This was reported in the Nobel Committee.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Belarusian human rights activist Oles Byalyatsky, the Russian human rights organization Memorial, and the Ukrainian human rights organization Center for Civil Liberties.

Peace Prize Laureates represent civil society in their countries. They have promoted for many years the right to criticize the government and protect the basic rights of citizens. They have made outstanding efforts to document war crimes, human rights violations and abuses of power. At the same time, they demonstrate the importance of civil society for peace and democracy, the committee said.

The Center for Civil Liberties (CCS) was founded in 2007 to promote human rights values. The organization is headed by Alexandra Matviychuk.

In 2017, human rights activists created the Kyiv School of Human Rights. Participated in the development of the draft law and the launch of an advocacy campaign for the harmonization of the Ukrainian criminal code with international criminal law. Carried out advocacy campaigns in defense of victims of sexual violence during the war, together with the Zero Impunity project.
