Intelligence agency says which country Russia is trying to involve in war with Ukraine

The Russian authorities are making efforts to engage a combined detachment of engineering troops of the Lao People's Army to demine territories in Kursk Region. This was reported by the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry.

In addition to attracting mercenaries from Africa, Asia and North Korea, the Kremlin is working to involve so-called "partners" in the war, hiding the true objectives under the guise of humanitarian projects. One such country is Laos. In particular, Russia is organising the involvement of a Laotian engineering contingent under the pretext of demining the Kursk region, but in fact to support Russian military activity in the region," the GUR said.

The intelligence agency noted that Laos, dependent on external aid, has initially agreed to send up to 50 sappers to Russia. This aid is disguised as a humanitarian initiative, but its true purpose is to strengthen the Russian military presence in the conflict zone with Ukraine.

In addition, Laos continues to assist Russia by rehabilitating wounded servicemen involved in the fighting against Ukraine. This is also presented as humanitarian aid, but in reality supports Russian military efforts.
