Two months ago, the Russians staged a terrorist attack at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, provoking a humanitarian, environmental and economic catastrophe in southern Ukraine.

The Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, which was blown up by the Russians in early June, cannot be restored as the explosion destroyed eleven of its 28 spans. This was stated by Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers has reported.

As a result of the terrorist attack destroyed 11 spans of the upper part of the dam out of 28. 150 tonnes of grease leaked from the engine room of the HPP. Kakhovskaya HPP can no longer be restored, - said Igor Klymenko during a meeting with representatives of foreign diplomatic institutions.

The head of the security agency stressed that the explosion of the hydroelectric power plant brought destruction to 180 settlements in Kherson, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, where about 875,000 people lived.

At least 34 people were killed, 28 others were injured. Thirty-nine people are considered missing. Nearly four thousand people and hundreds of pets were taken out of the flooded areas. During the rescue operation in the affected areas, 716 people were rescued, including 30 children and 40 people with low mobility," said Igor Klymenko.

At the same time, as the head of the Interior Ministry stressed, during the evacuation of the population, law enforcers and rescuers came under fire from the Russian invaders. They constantly fired at rescue vehicles and boats with people. Because of the enemy attacks, one rescuer was killed and 16 workers of other services were injured, the minister said.

Also because of the terrorist attack of the Russians about 700 thousand Ukrainians were left without access to drinking water, - said the Minister.

Klymenko added that the explosion of the Kakhov hydroelectric power station also increased the mine danger in Mykolayiv and Odessa regions, where the flow of water from the Kherson region carried many mines.

Cases of unauthorised detonation during the flow of mines have been recorded. Directly in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions. There also recorded nailing to the shore of such mines, - said Klimenko.

We would like to point out that the government earlier predicted that it would take at least eight years to restore the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.
