General Milly assessed Ukraine's chances of winning the war

What Putin has done is a frontal attack on those rules of international order that have been in place for eight decades since the end of World War II, Milley pointed out.
The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, pointed out that the Russians were not offensive but defensive. He also noted that those "have fallen in spirit", while Ukraine is getting the necessary weapons for a counteroffensive on the front. This he stated in an interview with The Washington Post.
Milley pointed out that the Russians have already suffered huge losses, both in personnel and equipment. Also, he said, they have problems with logistics and "have problems with strategy."
At the same time, the general noted that it was clear from the beginning that the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian defenders would be "bloody, long and difficult".
Speaking about the role of the allies, Milly pointed out that they fulfil all their promises and Ukraine receives a lot of weapons, equipment, ammunition, as well as a very large amount of military aid.
And there is also civilian aid, money and so on. But we have given Ukraine a huge amount of military aid. We gave them the right amount of equipment at the right time to achieve the goals they needed at the moment," he said.
Milley noted that Ukrainians will need to work hard to win.
If the ultimate goal is Ukraine as a free, independent, sovereign country with its territory intact, it will take a significant level of effort to achieve that goal. And it's a long, very difficult war with heavy casualties. You can achieve those goals by military means. It's going to take a long, long time, but you can also achieve these goals, perhaps through some diplomatic methods," the military officer added.
At the same time, he did not comment on rumours about possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
I would just say that there are different ways to achieve these goals. And I would say that right now it is probably too early to talk about it," Milli said.
At the same time, Milli stressed that this is not only Ukraine's war for survival, but also the war of Europe and the rest of the civilised world over the rules of international order, which have existed for eight decades since the end of World War II and which Putin has decided to ignore.
