German Patriot air defence systems to be deployed in Poland, after Germany refused to transfer the systems to Ukraine.

Germany decided to hand over Patriot SAMs to Poland after the last missile fell on the territory during a massive shelling of Ukraine by Russian troops on 15 November, the missile fell in the Polish border village of Przewodów and killed two people.

Afterwards, the leader of the Polish ruling Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, said it would be better for Poland's security if Germany offered Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine instead of it.

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Twitter:

"After talking to the German Ministry of Defence I was disappointed to accept their decision to refuse to support Ukraine. The deployment of Patriots in western Ukraine would enhance the security of Poles and Ukrainians. We are therefore continuing preparations to deploy the launchers on Polish territory and connect them to our control system.
