US general says what needs to be done to de-occupy Melitopol

Occupiers keep arriving in temporarily occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhya Region. There are already more Russians in the city than locals who have remained under occupation.
If the occupants cut the road through Mariupol and Melitopol, Crimea will become isolated for the logistics of the Russian army, a US general has pointed out. He stressed that this would stop the movement of Russian troops to and from the peninsula and weaken their position at the front. This opinion was voiced by Godes in an interview with NV.
"The road through Mariupol and Melitopol to Crimea is the so-called land bridge that connects the peninsula to the mainland, so Ukrainian forces should be able to destroy them, hit logistics, transport, railways, headquarters along that land bridge - whether it's in Melitopol or in Mariupol or somewhere in between," the former US Army commander in Europe explained.
In his opinion, depriving the Russians of reinforcements from the peninsula would make it easier to liberate Zaporizhzhya Region.
He also noted that Crimea is also very important to Ukraine.
"Crimea is crucial territory for you. Ukraine plans to liberate Crimea, and I really hope it will happen before the end of the summer, provided Western countries provide Ukraine with everything you need and ask for, and of course missiles of the right range," he said.
Gojes noted the high professionalism of the Ukrainian army and stressed that the actions of the Ukrainian command were respected.
