Johnson became an honorary citizen of one of the Ukrainian cities

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson received the title of honorary citizen of Odessa. This was announced by the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov.

We highly appreciate the help of your country, your Prime Minister. Therefore, I signed an order to award Boris Johnson honorary signs named after Grigory Marazli I, II, III degrees, - he said.

Thus, Johnson automatically receives the title of honorary citizen of Odessa.

According to Trukhanov, if the entire world community took the same position as the people of Britain, the Ukrainians would have defeated the invaders long ago.

This is the struggle of the entire civilized community against fascism version 2.0, and in this struggle, Mr. Johnson will become the first honorary citizen of the city - a subject of Great Britain, for the entire existence of the award - since 1862, Trukhanov added.

Honorary Citizen - a title that is awarded by the highest governing body of the territory, locality / city as an award for services to this territory, locality and symbolizes an exceptional form of expressing appreciation and gratitude of society for activities for the benefit of the city.

Foreigners were awarded the title of honorary citizen of Odessa only twice: the Frenchwoman Suzanne Savary-Polidori (1999) and Ya. I. Maniovich, who immigrated to Israel in the 1970s from the USSR (2004).

Note that the title of Honorary Citizen of Odessa is not associated with any special privileges. Apart from a few benefits that are funded from the city budget:

• free travel in public transport (except minibuses and taxis);
• payment for one voucher per year to a sanatorium or rest home;
• the right to receive a pension supplement in the amount of the minimum state pension upon reaching retirement age.

Nowadays, an Honorary Citizen of the city of Odessa is awarded a certificate, a ribbon of an Honorary Citizen and a badge, and his name is entered in the city Book of Honor.

It should be noted that an honorary citizen of the city of Odessa may be deprived of this high rank if, by his behavior, he "discredits himself before the territorial community, as well as if he violates the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, which is proved in the manner prescribed by law."
