The Czech Republic applied to replace Russia in the UN Human Rights Council /
The Czech Republic wants to replace Russia in the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). The country has already filed a corresponding application, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic said on Twitter .
The priority of the Czech government is to support human rights, it was reported.
On the eve of the chairman of the HRC Federico Villegas said that the election of a new country to the HRC will be held in the coming weeks, the procedure will be completed by the June session of this structure. According to him, Russia will be replaced by a representative of a group of Eastern European countries.
Recall that on April 7, 24 states voted against the suspension of Russia's membership in the UN Human Rights Council. This is the maximum level of punishment in the Human Rights Council - it is impossible to exclude the state. However, as a result of this, the Russian Federation was deprived of all the procedural rights that members of the Council have.
At the same time, not a single European state supported Russia in the vote.
