Production has been idle for 35 years.

This was reported by The New York Times.

According to journalists, the Terem arms factory in the Bulgarian town of Kostenets has started producing Soviet-era 122 mm artillery shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The factory had been in operation for 35 years.

With the creation of new jobs, the factory may become one of the largest employers in Kostenets.

In addition, the VMZ arms factory in Sopot, Bulgaria, switched to a six-day workweek to produce shells for Ukraine.

According to government estimates, Bulgaria's projected arms exports rose last year to more than $3 billion, about five times the sales abroad in 2019.

Journalists note that Bulgaria is not the only country to help Ukraine rebuild ammunition. Luxembourg, for example, is supplying Ukraine with arms originating in the Czech Republic. Cash brokers from the United States are searching factories in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Romania for shells. And Britain has formed a secret task force to arm Ukraine.
