Zelensky commented on the results of Ukraine's operation in Russia's Kursk region

on 12 August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed for the first time the operation of the Defence Forces in Kursk Region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the Ukrainian troops' offensive in Russia's Kursk Region was a "preventive strike" which allowed them to avoid a cordon of Ukrainian units and the occupation of the city of Sumy. He said this during an interaction with journalists.
He noted that the operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation is "complex", but one that already fulfils certain tasks.
One of them is the replenishment of the exchange fund, another task is a preventive strike, thanks to which it was possible to prevent the encirclement of Ukrainian units in Sumy region and the occupation of Sumy," the President explained.
In addition, according to the Ukrainian leader, this operation is designed to show the Russian society what "is more expensive for Putin - occupation of Ukrainian territories or defence of the Russian population".
And I am very happy that everything I told my partners about, we have now shown it in practice. He still thinks how to hold on to the captured territories and does not think how to properly protect his people. He is bombing his villages now. Just bravo," Zelensky explained.
At the same time, Zelensky emphasised that the operation in Kursk region is not a preparation for some kind of negotiations.
It is known that Ukraine controls 1,263 square kilometres and 93 settlements in Russia's Kursk Region.
