Zelensky asked Tusk to help Ukrainian students in Poland

Regulatory changes that may make it more difficult for Ukrainian students and applicants to enter local universities have come into force in Poland.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this, noting that such obstacles for young people were perceived as particularly acute against the background of the war. According to the head of state, he discussed the situation with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a telephone conversation. The leaders also touched upon the topics of working together for peace, development of defence production, support for Ukrainians and negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Zielenski informed Tusk about his recent meetings with US President Donald Trump and European leaders, after which the two sides agreed to coordinate actions for common European interests.
What has changed for applicants
On 1 August, a decree of the Ministry of Science and Education came into force in Poland, according to which foreigners, including Ukrainians, now need a certificate of proficiency in Polish or another language of at least B2 level to enter universities.
Previously, universities could independently check language skills, but the new regulation deprived them of this right. Additional complexity is created by the fact that the law itself changed on 1 July, and the final decree appeared only on 1 August - at the height of the admission campaign. Many applicants simply did not get the required certificate in time.
Zelensky appealed to the Polish government with a request to review these regulations and find a solution that will allow Ukrainian youth to continue their studies in Poland without unnecessary bureaucratic barriers.
