Andriy Melnyk was remembered for several scandalous phrases as the Ambassador of Ukraine. In particular, he compared German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to an "offended liverwurst" for allegedly not wanting to go to Ukraine.

Earlier, Melnik advised "go to hell" to the signatories of a letter in the German edition of Die Zeit, who called on Western countries to stop military support for Kyiv and create conditions for negotiations as soon as possible.

Melnik also stated in an interview that “there is no evidence yet that the Banderaites killed hundreds of thousands of Jews,” and this narrative is allegedly promoted by Russia.

Melnyk has headed Ukraine's diplomatic mission in Germany for eight years now, while ambassadors usually return from the country after four, maximum six years.
