Zelensky signed a decree banning the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia


The president enacted a decision of the National Security and Defence Council "On Certain Aspects of the Activity of Religious Organizations in Ukraine and the Application of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)".
Presidential decree No 820/2022 has been published on the website of the Ukrainian head of state.
The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Oleksiy Danilov, is in charge of monitoring the implementation of this decision of the NSDC.
The NSDC instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to submit in two months for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada a bill that prohibits the activities of religious organizations affiliated with the centres of influence in the Russian Federation in Ukraine, in accordance with the rules of international law in the field of freedom of conscience and Ukraine's obligations in connection with accession to the Council of Europe.
According to the decree, personal sanctions are imposed on representatives of religious organizations affiliated with Russia. The decree also envisions checking the grounds on which religious organizations use property on the territory of the National Kiev Pecherskyy historical and cultural reserve.
