Whether voluntary pension contributions can be made while on leave at your own expense

In Ukraine, the minimum amount of insurance service required for retirement pension increases annually.

In 2024, at least 31 years of service will be required to receive a pension at the age of 60.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine has clarified that it is possible to pay a voluntary pension contribution for the period of leave without pay.

The months for which insurance contributions were paid by the employer or the person himself are counted in the insurance record.

If the employer did not pay insurance contributions for any period, this period of time will not be included in the insurance record.

However, citizens can independently pay voluntary pension contributions through the web portal of electronic services of the Pension Fund of Ukraine under a simplified procedure. The amount of contributions will be taken into account for the month in which the funds are received on the account of the Fund.

When paying a voluntary contribution in the month when a person has no earnings, he/she will receive the insurance record.

For one full month to be counted as insurance seniority, the amount of the voluntary contribution must be no less than the minimum insurance contribution, which is 22% of the minimum wage. From 1 April 2024, this is UAH 1,760 (22% of UAH 8,000, where UAH 8,000 is the minimum wage).

A person can continue to pay voluntary contributions even while receiving a salary, which will increase their income for their future pension.
