What to watch in August: the main series premieres you can't miss

August promises to be a real treat for fans of TV series, with so many premieres coming out on streaming platforms this month that you can't do without lists and notes.
Mystery, historical dramas, comedies and action films - there is something for everyone. Harper's Bazaar India has prepared an overview of the most anticipated films of August 2025.
CHIEF OF WAR
The historical drama CHIEF OF WAR transports the viewer to the late 18th century, to the islands of Hawaii in the pre-colonisation era. The series tells the story of the warrior Ka'iana, who fights for the unification of the archipelago. The main role played by Jason Momoa, he also acted as a co-writer of the script and executive producer. The story is rich in events and cultural details, revealing not only the military clashes, but also the inner strength and resilience of Hawaiians. Premiering on Apple TV+ on 1 August (first two episodes immediately, then every Friday until 19 September).
WEDNESDAY, SEASON 2
Fans of the Addams Family are rejoicing: after three years, the sequel to the mega-popular mystery series Wenzday is coming out. The first part of the second season starts on 6 August, while the second part starts on 3 September on Netflix. Now the entire Addams family joins Wenzday at Nevermore Academy, and each of them, including Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzman) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), promises to bring their share of chaos. This season, Pugsley's new supernatural abilities are revealed, and the main intrigue is personal: in one of his visions, Wansday learns of the death of his friend and roommate Enid, and blames himself. Lady Gaga is also joining the series - expect a colourful cameo.
PLATONIC, SEASON 2
The comedy series Platonic, starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, returns to Apple TV+ on 6 August. It's a continuation of the story of two best friends who find themselves in funny and awkward situations while balancing careers, personal lives and growing up. The creators - married couple Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller - promise more mayhem, humour and heartfelt moments of friendship. The second season includes 10 episodes that will air weekly through October.
LOVE IS BLIND: UK
The reality show Love Is Blind: UK is the long-awaited British version of the world-famous experiment about finding love without regard to looks. On 13 August on Netflix, the British and Irish contestants will meet for the first time without seeing each other, and only after the engagement will they see the chosen one for the first time. Over the next few weeks, the couples will live together, plan their wedding and see if their emotional bond can stand the test of real life.
THE TERMINAL LIST: DARK WOLF
Fans of military thrillers will be able to appreciate the prequel to the popular series "The Terminal List". In the centre of the plot - the story of Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) and his journey from a special forces fighter to a CIA special operations officer. Chris Pratt (James Reece) is also returning to his roles. The new season launches on 27 August on Amazon Prime Video.
THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB
For those who prefer cosy detectives, Netflix has prepared an adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling novel "Thursday Murder Club". The four resilient pensioners - played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie - meet every week to investigate unsolved crimes. But suddenly a real murder occurs in their quiet village, and now the case becomes all too personal. Lots of humour, sharp dialogue and unexpected twists and turns are guaranteed. Premiering on Netflix on the 28th of August.
August is a month for real series buffs: new seasons, debuts and returns of favourite characters, and a whole range of genres from mystery to true stories. The best way to avoid spoilers is to add these shows to your list now and watch as soon as they're released.
