For almost twenty years, fans of The Devil Wears Prada have been waiting for news of a sequel, and now their dream is coming true.
Disney is launching a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, ELLE reports.
What will the sequel be about?
According to Variety, the second instalment will revolve around Meryl Streep's character, fashion editor Miranda Priestly. This time Miranda will have to fight for her career against the backdrop of a crisis in the traditional print industry and confront Emily (Emily Blunt), who is now a top manager of a major luxury brand, which has the advertising budgets Miranda needs. Andy's (Anne Hathaway) role is being kept a secret for now, but the character will definitely be back.
Who will be back in the cast?
Meryl Streep (Miranda), Anne Hathaway (Andy), Emily Blunt (Emily) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel) will return to their famous roles. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman (Lily and Irv Ravitz) will also appear in the sequel. New faces joining the cast include Kenneth Branagh (as Miranda's husband), Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Conrad Ricamora, Helen J. Shen and Caleb Hiron. Entertainment Weekly specifies that Patrick Brummall will be Andy's new lover.
Part 1 director David Frankel and screenwriter Alyn Brosh McKenna are also back to work on the sequel, along with producer Karen Rosenfeld.
Who won't be in the sequel?
According to Entertainment Weekly, Adrian Grenier, who played Andy's boyfriend Nate in the first film, will not be joining the cast.
When can we expect the premiere and how is filming going?
The Devil Wears Prada 2's official release date is set for 1 May 2026, Variety specifies. Production has already started - 20th Century Studios announced it on their social media accounts on 30 June 2025. Anne Hathaway shared a short TikTok video with the caption "Heading to werk #dwp2", where she appears in her character's iconic blue jumper.
Fashion moments on set
Fans will be pleased with the new images of the main heroines. Hathaway has already glimpsed herself in a Gabriela Hearst Spring/Summer 2025 dress, as well as a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier waistcoat with trousers. In other scenes she appeared in an AGOLDE denim skirt, Toteme top and Chanel velcro sandals.
on 21 July, Meryl Streep recreated Miranda's look on the streets of New York: a purple blouse and Gabriela Hearst Manuela skirt reaffirmed her status as a style icon. Photos from the shoot instantly went viral on social media.
Who else would love to star in the sequel?
Nicholas Galitzin, who recently starred with Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, admitted to ELLE magazine that he dreams of joining Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt:
"If Annie says yes, I'd love to play at least the assistant who runs for coffee."
Fans are already anticipating the return to screens of the iconic fashion editorial, witty dialogue and a new round of struggles for success. We can only wait until May 2026 to see what the world of glossy will be like in the digital age.
