War in Ukraine may drag on: European report gives forecast

France warns: war in Ukraine could last up to five years, Europe at risk without US.
The war in Ukraine may drag on for three to five years, while the risk of a large-scale armed conflict in Europe remains without the active participation of the United States. This is stated in the new strategic national review of France until 2030, published on the official website of the government.
The document emphasises that against the background of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, new Russian offensive actions near European borders - in Moldova, in the Balkans and even against NATO member states - are possible.
French analysts warn that the highest risk would be the simultaneous emergence of large-scale Russian aggression in Europe and armed conflict in another region of the world. Such a situation could weaken the U.S. presence and attention, creating a vulnerability for European security.
The document also points out that the Kremlin regularly labelled France and European countries as adversaries, which, according to Paris, indicates a long and purposeful policy of confrontation on the part of Russia.
In this regard, France declares it a priority to strengthen the defence capability and sustainability of the state. In particular, it is planned to increase the financing of the army, rearm and strengthen the ability to wage high-intensity warfare.
The review envisages strengthening the country's moral and material capacity, as well as readiness to counter destabilising actions both internally and externally.
