Ukraine intends to remove age limits for military service

Ukraine is now undergoing a general mobilisation, which was announced because of a full-scale invasion by Russia.
The Verkhovna Rada has registered draft law No. 10084, which proposes to remove age limits for serving in the army. And if now men who serve in the army must quit after reaching the age of 60. In some cases - after the age of 65, after the introduction of new rules they will be able to continue serving.
The explanatory note to the bill says that now citizens serve in the military in accordance with the law, which establishes certain restrictions on service, in particular, the age limit.
Thus, Article 22 of the Law of Ukraine "On Military Duty and Military Service" defines the limiting age of military service, established for military personnel serving in the military during a special period, from among persons:
- rank-and-file, sergeant and petty officers, junior and senior officers - up to 60 years of age;
- senior officers - up to 65 years of age.
Instead of this wording, the MPs propose that "for the duration of martial law military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, who have high professional training, practical experience in the position they hold, recognised by the military medical commission as fit for military service, at their request may be retained in military service above the age limit for military service, without restrictions on age and period of retention in military service".
It is noted that the draft law is at the stage of development.
