Ukrainian fire installation presented at Burning Man festival in the USA (video, photo)
A fire installation - Ukrainian Phoenix - is presented at the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert in the USA.
At the event on 31 August, an eight-metre phoenix sculpture resembling a trident was unveiled with a fire performance. This was reported by Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Vitaliy Deinega.
The allegory of this work is very simple. They wanted to destroy us as a nation. But the fire hardened us. We came out of the fire, and it only made our skin thicker and us stronger. We were reborn through fire. And even though we didn't choose this for ourselves - but we made it through and we continue to make it through every day," Deinega wrote.
The sculpture was initially hidden behind a wooden box, which was burned. The installation represents the unity and steadfastness of the Ukrainian spirit, and the performance with the burning of the box symbolised what happened to Ukraine and Ukrainians.
