In Russia arrested "top" on hypersonic missiles

Director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Shiplyuk was arrested in a treason case. This is the third third arrest of a scientist in the Russian Federation in recent times, which has become the subject of publicity, CNN reports.

Media reports that Shiplyuk was delivered to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in Moscow. A source close to the investigation previously reported that Maslov is suspected of providing state secret data related to hypersound.

Shiplyuk is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a prominent specialist in the field of high-speed aerogasdynamics and experimental methods for studying gas flows. At the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the scientist was the head of the laboratory, where the problems of high-speed flight are studied. The main scientific directions of Alexander Shiplyuk are connected with the development of the experimental base and methods of aerophysical research. Also, his research is related to the experimental aerothermodynamics of high-speed aircraft with ramjet engines.

Shiplyuk is known in the academic environment for the following achievements:

• development of methods for modeling wave processes in hypersonic shear flows;
• experimental discovery and substantiation of a new method for stabilizing hypersonic boundary layers using coatings with a porous microstructure that absorb ultrasound;
• creation on the basis of nanotechnology of a new type of hot-wire sensor with a sensitive element in the form of a semiconductor single-crystal micro- or nanotube.

CNN also notes that on June 27, the chief researcher of the same institute, Anatoly Maslov, was arrested. He is also suspected of treason.
