Due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, a reduction in the acreage of high-margin crops is expected this season.

During the sowing season 2022, Ukraine sowed 7.1 million hectares of land with the main agricultural crops, which is 49.3% of the 14.4 million hectares planned for the current season. This is reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The department noted that the sowing of spring crops of the early group (wheat, barley and oats) was completed in 12 regions: Vinnytsia, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytsky regions.

In addition, in 2021, winter crops were sown for the 2022 harvest on a total area of 7.7 million hectares, including 6.5 million hectares of winter wheat, 1 million hectares of barley and 0.16 million hectares of rye.

Currently, agricultural enterprises have completed the first feeding of winter crops with nitrogen mineral fertilizers.

Due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine this season, a reduction in the acreage of high-margin crops (sunflower and corn) is expected while increasing the acreage of crops that are easier to produce, but important in terms of food security - peas, barley and oats.

In the zone of risky farming, Nikolaev, Kherson, Zaporozhye and Odessa, Kherson has almost completely disappeared from them, Zaporozhye is in the frontline zone and there will definitely be a fall, Sumy and Chernihiv fall out, experts say.

Ukraine is one of the world's largest suppliers of grain and vegetable oil, and the war is hindering its crops, harvesting and exports. The indicator of world food prices has soared to record levels. Protests are already taking place around the world due to inflation and food prices, and the situation will only worsen significantly, according to the World Food Program.

Experts believe that due to problems with supplies from Russia and Ukraine, the poorest countries will suffer. The poorer the country, the harder it will hit it. A poor country is one where the average consumer spends 50-60% of their income on food - Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan. Europe does not face such problems, it is rich. The European consumer spends 10–15% of his income on food, the American consumer spends about 10% of his income. For them, this is not a serious problem.
