Ukrzaliznytsya and a US billionaire have created a kitchen train

This was announced by Ukrzaliznytsya on its Facebook page on 26 September.

This year, Ukrzaliznytsya created a train that can produce more than 10,000 meals a day anywhere and at any time.

Together with the Howard Buffett Foundation they launched another unique project that has no analogues.

Food train has already passed the test check, and in the near future a joint team of Ukrzaliznytsia and the Foundation will be on permanent duty in difficult frontline areas of Ukraine, where heat and food are critical for life - said the Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Lyashchenko.

The train consists of 6 cars under the locomotive:

• generator wagon (~400 kW + own refuelling station for autonomous operation);
• refrigerator car with a freezer for food storage;
• wagon with cold kitchen for pre-processing of products;
• car with hot kitchen for preparation of final dishes;
• a carriage for the train personnel with a shower and a washing machine;
• luggage car for 27 thousand litres of water with filtration and pumping stations.

Food Train can work autonomously for 5-7 days, and the equipment of the train allows to cook complete meals: soups, porridge, salads, meat and so on.

Special thermo-boxes installed inside the train allow to easily transport ready-made lunchboxes with food from the food train to the end consumer.

The construction and operation of the train are fully funded by The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.

Howard Buffett himself is a regular Ukrzaliznytsia passenger who travelled Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv and Kherson during the war and supports a number of other railway projects, notably Iron Shift.
