SBU cyber specialists have detained two Russian agents who corrected the Russian air attack on Kyiv on the night of 21 September this year.

It has been established that on the eve of this date, the detainees sent the coordinates for a strike on Kyiv to the Russians. This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, two local residents who worked for the main directorate of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff (known as the GRU) were engaged in "pointing" Russian missiles at Kyiv. They came to the attention of the Russian military intelligence because of their anti-Ukrainian messages on social networks, which they spread after the start of the aggressor's full-scale invasion," the SBU said in a statement.

A representative of the GRU remotely recruited both men and tasked them with gathering intelligence on the territory of Kyiv. The agents tracked the locations and movements of the Defence Forces in the capital region.

The SBU said that for this purpose, they covertly recorded the Ukrainian defenders' deployment points. Also, the defendants "in the dark" used their acquaintances to elicit the necessary information under the guise of domestic conversations.

In addition, the enemy agents sent their Russian "curator" photos and geolocations of strategically important energy infrastructure facilities.

During searches at the residence of both defendants, mobile phones were seized, which they used for photographing Ukrainian objects and correspondence with the aggressor. They also found bank cards on which the Russian agents received funds from their "curator" from the GRU.

Both detainees were reported by SBU investigators on suspicion under part 2 of Article 28 and part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The attackers face life imprisonment.
