11:15, 03.03.2023

The activist is involved in LGBT advocacy as well as psychological support and volunteering.

This was stated in a Time magazine article.

Olena Shevchenko is a Ukrainian LGBT rights activist, head of Insight and organiser of the annual Women's March in Kyiv. She was listed as one of TIME's Women of the Year.

Since 2017, when Shevchenko co-founded Insight, she has been attacked seven times. In an interview with TIME, the activist revealed that LGBTQI people in Ukraine face severe discrimination during the war, most humanitarian aid does not address the needs of people with disabilities, and levels of sexual violence have increased significantly.

In 2022, together with their colleagues, they raised over $400,000 in humanitarian aid for vulnerable women and the LGBTQI community, providing legal and psychological support.

It's a daily struggle. We need to be reminded that women are not just the ones who need to give birth to new soldiers and take care of our heroes

Each year TIME publishes 12 women leaders who contribute to the struggle for human rights. This year the magazine's list includes actresses Cate Blanchett and Quinta Brunson, Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad, environmental activist Aisha Siddique, singer Phoebe Bridgers and others.
