The second ADA class anti-submarine warfare corvette for Ukraine was launched at the STM shipyard in Istanbul on 1 August
Construction of the ship began on 18 August 2023, so the Turks have built the warship in less than a year. At the same time, they will finalise it afloat, which is a common practice in shipbuilding, as the ship must still undergo sea trials.
This is reported by the Turkish edition of Clash Report.
So far, the terms of completion of all work on the corvette, much less its official introduction into the Ukrainian Navy, have not been disclosed.
This is the second warship of this class to be built in Turkey. The first was the corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Its construction began at the same shipyard in September 2021, and it was launched in October 2022.
Corvette "Hetman Ivan Mazepa" is the future flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, it will replace the frigate "Hetman Sagaidachny", which was sunk to prevent capture by the Russians.
When these corvettes join our fleet, they will become the largest ships of the Ukrainian Navy. At the moment, Ukraine's fleet is represented only by reconnaissance and small patrol boats, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, which nevertheless levelled the entire Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Although corvettes are not the largest ships, inferior in size and firepower to destroyers and frigates, but for the waters of the Black Sea they are quite enough to perform the full range of tasks.
In nautical terminology "ship" refers to military watercrafts, while "vessel" is a more general term covering all types of watercrafts, so it is referred more to civilian ones.
