Trump prepares to appoint special envoy on Ukraine

Some advisers are urging Trump to push Kiev for peace on terms that would freeze the front lines.
Trump is expected to soon appoint a special envoy on Ukraine "to negotiate an end to the war." Fox News reports that.
You're going to see a very senior special envoy, a person of great authority, who will be tasked with finding a solution, reaching a peace settlement. You will see it soon," a source of the publication noted in a conversation with journalists.
They stressed that the person who would take up this position would not receive a salary and that he would seek a way to end the war on a volunteer basis.
In turn, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said that Donald Trump's entourage was considering two candidates for the role of "peacemaker", namely:
- Robert OʼBrien (Trump's former national security adviser);
- former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell
Both candidates are very familiar with the situation in Ukraine and are quite close to Trump," Goncharenko added.
During Trump's first cadence, from 2017 to 2019, the position of the US government's special representative for Ukraine negotiations was held by Kurt Volker.
