The SBU has detained a traitor who pointed a Russian Iskander missile at residential buildings in the centre of Kharkiv a month ago.

Cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine have detained an agent of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff's GRU who corrected the Russian air attack on Kharkiv on 6 October this year. This is reported by the SBU.

On that day, 6 October, the occupants hit Kharkiv withIskander missiles. Two civilians were killed, including a 10-year-old boy, and dozens of civilians were injured. Several residential buildings in the centre of Kharkiv were also significantly destroyed and damaged.

It has been established that in order to prepare the missile attack, a Russian agent handed over to the invaders electronic coordinates of the "targets" with geo-referenced locations," the SBU said.

According to the investigation, the traitor turned out to be a man who worked as a foreman at a local construction company. The Russian secret service recruited him remotely through the messenger Telegram.

It is reported that under the guise of work trips, the agent recorded the locations and movements of Ukrainian troops on the territory of the region. He passed the information he received to the GRU through a "contact" from the temporarily occupied part of eastern Ukraine.

He turned out to be one of the former leaders of the terrorist organisation "LNR" nicknamed "Shaman", whom the SBU had earlier informed about suspicion.

During the searches, more than 10,000 US dollars were found in the detainee's possession. SBU investigators informed the enemy agent of suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

Now the agent is in custody. The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances of the offence. The attacker faces life imprisonment.
