The SBU has detained a traitor who tried to poison the AFU command in Zaporizhzhya.

The SBU military counterintelligence service has prevented a Russian sabotage against the Defence Forces command on the southern front. This was reported by the SBU on 12 March.

As a result of a special operation, an FSB agent who tried to fatally poison the commanders of an AFU combat unit in Zaporizhzhya Region was detained, the special service said.

The attacker turned out to be an active serviceman of the Ukrainian army. To commit the crime, he planned to add a poisonous substance to the water of the bath and laundry complex, which was used by the command staff of the AFU.

According to the investigation, the figure was recruited through his parents living in the temporarily occupied part of the territory of Lugansk region.

As the investigation established, the captors kidnapped the man's relatives right from their home and then imprisoned them in the local Russian detention centres. There, the victims were subjected to cruel torture, demanding that they persuade their son to work in favour of the aggressor country.

SBU investigators informed him of suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). He faces life imprisonment.
